The College of Science at the University of Basra has joined a panel discussion on (Genetic Variations of X – Chromosomal Short Tandem Repeats (X-STRs) in Basrah Population) for the postgraduate student Aliyah Muhammad Jaber. A reference for determining individual identity in the population of Basra, where the study included addressing the knowledge of tandem repeats and their types and their importance on the X chromosome. The study recommended that there is a need for more focus on increasing the number of short tandem repeat sites on the X chromosome (X-STRs) and increasing the size of the population sample to create a more accurate and discriminatory reference database in forensic applications.
