The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled(the role of cytomegalovirus - Epstein-Barr virus in women with breast cancer in Basra Governorate) by a graduate student Aseel Abdul Hassan Kareem The study aims included a molecular and histological diagnosis, where the molecular diagnosis was by investigating the presence of the two viruses by searching for their genes in Paraffin-embedded biopsies taken from breast patients. The study concluded the presence of viruses in most tissues of patients with breast cancer, as well as benign tumors. Level III invasive ductal carcinoma was the most prevalent compared to invasive lobular carcinoma in terms of determining the presence of both viruses. The first type is the predominant type of Epstein-Barr virus. and the study recommended that the sample size be wider and include other types of cancer, such as prostate cancer, as well as using more accurate diagnostic methods such as the immunohistochemistry technique. The study recommended using the protein level detection method to diagnose the virus in genes responsible for the formation of cancer.
