A master’s thesis at the College of Pharmacy in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department at the University of Basrah discussed (preparation and evaluation of the anti-bacterial and analgesic efficacy of some antipyrine derivatives) by student Abeer Issa Muhammad Abdullah.
The thesis included the preparation of three chains of 4-aminoantipyrine derivatives, which are tetrazol, oxadiazole and triazole derivatives. At first, two compounds (A) and (P) were prepared from the reaction of 4-aminoantipyrine with chloroacetyl chloride or 3-chloropropionyl chloride as primary compounds. For the production of derivatives, seven compounds were prepared with three chains of thiol compounds, namely, 1,3,4-oxadiazole and 1,2,4-oxadiazole, using overlapping reactions. A nucleophilic substitution reaction was performed between the three thiol chains with primary derivatives A and P To give ten final derivatives
The antibacterial results of the new prepared series showed that the compounds of tetrazole derivatives showed moderate to slight activity against most types of bacteria (Gram-positive bacteria) and activity with a larger inhibition diameter against (Gram-negative bacteria). Also, all oxadiazole derivatives showed good activity against all the bacteria used. The results showed positive and negative bacteria: they showed low to moderate activity against these bacteria in all the tested concentrations.
