The thesis dealt with the techniques of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) as a basis for the cartographic representation of the land slopes within the Al-Salman district, and then geomorphologically analyzed them and to determine the prevailing regression characteristics. The study relied on two traditional classifications common in the study of slopes, including Zuidam (1979) and Zink 1989)), as well as the use of two other recent classifications, including the classification of researchers Ercanoğlu M (2004) and the classification of Eğim (2013).
The thesis aims to employ remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems to derive regressions within the Salman district and to develop the necessary classifications in this field. As well as building an updatable information base on the geomorphological forms in the region, and preparing a cartographic index to represent them that may contribute to the development of strategic plans for development by future decision makers.
And the thesis concluded, that modern geographical techniques are an important source with accurate results when studying regressions, and building a database for them with less effort, time, and cheaper costs compared to traditional survey methods. The study also showed that the digital elevation model (DEM) is the basis for deriving slope maps and other geomorphological maps. The flat regressive shapes formed an area of (9636.3 km2), which is the highest, while the area of the concave regressive shapes was about (5158.89 km2), while the convex regressive shapes had the lowest area among the other categories by (15.28 km2).
The thesis recommended relying on remote sensing data and geographic information systems, especially after the great development in processing software, and the adoption of satellite visual as a basis for the production of many detailed studies and maps. And the necessity of planning in terms of urban expansion in the district, it is necessary to stay away from areas of steep slopes and areas of flood outlets, to provide the highest degree of safety for its residents, in addition to expanding the investment of low-shade and medium-shade areas as they reflect a little slope, and this is mostly available in large areas of the district, especially The first five levels of elevation
