The Department of Earth Sciences at the college of Science discussed a master’s thesis entitled (Taxonomic and environmental study of fossils for selected areas of the marshes of southern Iraq), based on some surface samples and core samples, which extend to a depth of 100-50 cm.
The study included a general introduction about the marshes of southern Iraq and their geographical, tectonic nature, climate and field work to collect surface and core samples for seven marsh sites starting from Basra to Nasiriyah. Foraminifera, ostracuda and mollusks are available according to the prevailing conditions in the environment, including salinity, temperature and depth..
