The College of Medicine, University of Basrah, discussed diploma research entitled Comparison of Tramadol and Pethidine Analgesia on the Duration of Labor and Pregnancy Outcome . The research was presented by Ola Sabah Ramadan and aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of intramuscular administration of pethidine and tramadol on the duration of labor, their analgesic effects and how they impact the delivery. The researcher concluded that In first stage of labor, both drugs can provide moderate analgesic effects. She also concluded that Tramadol is an effective and safe labor analgesic and seems to cause shorter duration of labor and lower maternal adverse effects in comparison with pethidine. However, it's analgesic efficacy was not found to be as effective as pethidine, especially in the 2nd stage of labor.
