Using the application of a one-dimensional model of wetlands with horizontal subsurface runoff that was working in batches system next to the wastewater treatment plant of the University of Basra. The collected field data was used to examine whether the model can work to simulate the treatment of horizontal runoff wetlands with different concentrations of water Exchange
The thesis aims to reuse water under controlled conditions treatment mechanisms that occur in natural data through the development and improvement of the process that includes porous media, plants and microbial assembly.
In wetland treatment, the horizontal flow travels through the gravel media layer and vegetation that allows incoming water to flow through the roots and has contact with the biofilm created in the subsurface wetland.
The thesis concluded that the model is a powerful simulation tool, which allows monitoring the correlation between parameters and hydraulic properties in porous media.
The treated water from wetlands was evaluated according to recognized water quality guidelines to determine its suitability for irrigation purposes. The results ensured that the treated water was suitable for irrigation, except for the electrical conductivity, which was still high to the point of WQI compared to the accepted standard. Moreover, the results were also evaluated according to the standards of
COD and Jordanian specifications that indicated that water can be used for irrigation purposes except for .which was still
somewhat higher.
