Researched a doctoral thesis in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Basrah (Improvement and Optimization of Heat Transfer for Various Electrical Transformers) for the student Muhammad Hamid Khalaf Jasim
The thesis dealt with a theoretical analysis and a practical application of an oil-immersed electric transformer and the use of a ground-air heat exchanger to enhance heat expulsion from the transformer. The temperature in the core of the transformer and the windings, as well as a continuous decrease in the temperature of the cooling oil, and this cooling process was studied with the transformer load (75% DH and 100% DH) of its maximum ignition power value.
The results showed that increasing the air velocity entering the air heat exchanger will reduce the temperature of the cooling oil, the iron core and the windings of the electric transformer and increase the heat conduction process of the cooling oil. The temperature of the transformer cooling oil is about 18.5 Celsius and the study also included adding nanoparticles to the cooling oil to increase the process of removing the heat generated (as a result of continuous operation) inside the transformer.
The study showed that by using SiC nanoparticles with a volume ratio of 9% in the cooling oil with the use of the EAHE system, the oil temperature will be reduced to about 32 degrees Celsius when using SiC or TiO 2 particles.
