The College of Engineering at the University of Basrah held a scientific symposium entitled Smart Technology, in cooperation with the Iraq chapter of the Association of International Computer Machines (ACM), on Thursday, 20/12/2018, and at the Martyr Asaad Salim Hall in the College of Engineering halls complex. The symposium began with the recitation of verses from the Noble Qur’an, then a picture of Al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq. Then the national anthem was played to begin the first session, which included three lectures. The first lecture was by Prof. Dr. Abdul Azim Abdul Karim Ali, and it dealt with ways to protect the land borders and strategic installations through systems buried underground. The lecture also touched on monitoring enemy movements through wireless vibration control systems. As for the maritime borders, the lecturer dealt with the methods of monitoring them using the swimming robots system. In the second lecture, Prof. Dr. Ghaida Abdul Razzaq Al-Suhail discussed patient and vehicle tracking systems via satellites, the types, locations and different specifications of these satellites. While Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Ahmed Abdel addressed the block chain systems and their applications in the field of commercial contracts and electronic passports.
In the second session, Dr. Wassan Abdel Razzaq Wali discussed the design of smart tubes that can report leakage cases, as well as designing smart balls that are launched inside the regular tubes to detect problems inside these tubes. While Dr. Louay Ali Taleb dealt with the design and uses of a modern type of robot called soft robots and its modern uses in industry. In the last lecture, Dr. Musab Adel Ali dealt with the design of a smart bed that can diagnose the types of human movements during sleep and its benefits in medical diagnosis as well as in monitoring children and the elderly.
In the end, the Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Abdel Amir Jassem, distributed certificates of appreciation from the College of Engineering to the lecturers and the organizing committee of the symposium
