The third workshop was held at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah on the future of Basra’s water under the auspices of the President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Thamer Ahmed Al-Hamdan, and the Director General of the South Refineries Company, Eng. Hussam Hussein Wali, in cooperation with the College of Engineering and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering. The workshop began with reciting the Noble Qur’an, then the national anthem and a pause To read Surat Al-Fatihah on the souls of the martyrs of Iraq, and then the opening speech came to the assistant administrative dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Bassem Talib. The first session was headed by Professor Ali Hashem, Director General of Studies at the Ministry of Water Resources, and Professor Dr. Ali Abdel-Zahra, Director General of the Marine Science Center. The first was presented by Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul-Razzaq, Department of Chemical Engineering, “Basra’s Water Future” and the second “Efforts made by the team Volunteers of the Popular Effort” presented by Dr. Ahmed Muhaisen Voluntary Mobilization and the third “Sustainable Techniques for Wastewater Management in Basrah” presented by Dr. Suhad Abdul-Amir, College of Engineering and the fourth “The Dam: Extreme Necessity and Long-Term Strategies” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohsen Abdul Hai Dasher, Faculty of Agriculture
And the coordinator of the workshop, Dr. Alaa Abdul Razzaq Jassim, indicated that water security in Basra governorate is one of the complex issues due to the governorate’s geography in terms of qualitative and quantitative water sources, in addition to the multiplicity of pollution sources, as the deterioration in the quality and quantity of water entering Basra during the past few months has caused a direct threat to all service and health sectors. Including in addition to the industrial and agricultural, it was shown that the purpose of the workshop is to review the efforts of the relevant government institutions in the field of solving the water crisis in Basra Governorate and to show the measures and plans produced by the central and local government to achieve water security in the province. The recommendations of the workshop were submitted to the relevant authorities to take them At the end of the workshop, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the participants.
