A master's thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah examined (extinguishing the semi-synchronous resonance in the power system using the FACTS controller) for the student "Khaled Abdul-Sada Nabhar"
The thesis dealt with how to control semi-synchronous resonance through the use of series compensation type TCSC, as well as the use of automatic voltage regulator AVR, as well as how to choose the gain coefficients for these two types of control through the use of proportional - integral - differential (PID) elements initially by trial and error, as well as the use of the network Neural to select TCSC and AVR coefficients together in order to save effort and increase accuracy for selecting coefficients compared to using trial and error method
The thesis also discussed the process of suppressing oscillating frequencies through the use of one of the modern control methods using (LQG), as well as studying the reduction of the level of the control circuit generated in the controller (LQG) and maintaining the effectiveness of the suppression for semi-synchronous oscillations, which leads to reducing the complexity of the system and the ease of the control process in the system.
