The College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed the master's thesis entitled (Evaluation and Improvement of Shatt Al-Arab Water Using Environmentally Friendly Methods)
The thesis of researcher Lina Alaa Mousa included conducting tests for water and plant samples, which included measuring the concentrations of heavy metals inside the plant, the total chlorophyll concentration, the percentage of protein and proline for each of the concentration and control basins.
The study aims to evaluate some of the physical and chemical properties of Shatt Al-Arab water from some well-known sources of pollution and to measure the concentrations of some heavy metals, and then to conduct plant treatments on it by applying laboratory experiments using the Shamban and Humira plants.
The study recommended conducting monthly periodic checks on the waters of the Shatt al-Arab to monitor the levels of heavy metals and other pollutants, and the use of other plants in phytoremediation to test their ability to rid the aquatic environment of pollutants.
