A master's thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah examined (nonlinear analysis by finite element method for reinforced concrete columns reinforced with carbon fibers) for the student "Zahra Abbas Khudair"
The thesis dealt with the creation of three-dimensional models of specific elements using the ANSYS program version 16 to load the concrete columns reinforced with polymer reinforced with carbon fibers, as well as to evaluate the acquired performance "strength and ductility" that comes from this reinforcement. Reinforcement and a three-dimensional crustal element was used to represent the reinforced polymer with carbon fibers. The ideal bond between concrete and carbon fibers was assumed.
The study also included the study of the effect of the most important factors such as: concrete compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, CFRP, direction of polymer fibers, effect of total and partial surround of carbon fibers, effect of strengthening the upper weak part of the long column.
The thesis concluded that the influencing factors showed a decrease in the increase in the acquired strength and ductility when compared with the reference columns when increasing the compressive strength of concrete and when increasing the ratio of section length to width for rectangular columns and when increasing the percentage of thinness and when the columns were subjected to eccentric loading condition. The direction of the fibers and the thickness of the fibers have an effect. Remarkable on the behavior of the stress-strain and resistance curve of the columns surrounded by fibers The failure of the columns starts from one of the corners because the stress is concentrated at the corners, reducing the intensity of the corners by increasing the radius is an effective factor in improving the profitability increase in the ductile resistance of square reinforced concrete columns
