A master's thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basra examined (stress analysis of concrete pillars by finite element method) by the student Riyad Razak Salem.
The thesis dealt with the use of the finite element method to analyze the behavior of individual piles under the influence of static vertical examination loads in multi-layered soil.
ABAQUS program was used to analyze the behavior of individual pillars. The substrate and the surrounding soil were represented by three-dimensional brick elements. Soil represented as a continuous medium (elastic - plastic) following the rule of submission (Mohr - Coulmb) was achieved by the program in comparison with the results of two models, the first was (Jonson et al. new oil depot) under test load and in both models we obtained successful comparisons between the calculated and measured results.
The thesis concluded that the maximum load of the pile increases with the increase in the diameter or length of the pile in different proportions for each of the two studied sites, and the permissible loads calculated by the finite element method were less than its theory calculated by the analytical methods, the permissible drop calculated by the method of the finite elements for the site (Three raw water tanks in Basra refinery) was greater than the permissible drop calculated by the experimental method, and inversely for the site (Al Nasiriya new oil depot).
