The Department of Geology at the College of Science discussed a doctoral thesis entitled (Geophysical and Hydrogeological Study to Detect the Impact of Subsurface Structures on Groundwater Resources in the Scope of Salman within Muthanna Governorate, Iraq). The thesis of researcher Aqeel Rahman Hassan aims to evaluate the effects of subsurface structures on the sedimentary cover using gravitational and magnetic data. Explore deep and shallow linear structures to assess the presence, paths, and movement of groundwater within the Salman range.
The study included the use of gravitational and magnetic geophysical data to determine subsurface structures, including deep and shallow linear affecting the sources and movement of groundwater within the scope of Salman / Muthanna Governorate / Iraq. Available groundwater data and geological and hydrogeological surveys were also used to determine the spatial variability of groundwater quality and quantity and aquifer engineering. All of this data has been combined to gain a better understanding of potential groundwater areas within the Salman range.
The results found that geophysical data showed two main groups of liabilities. The first group is in a direction (northwest - northeast) where it is perpendicular to plankton and wide and long compositions, while the second group is towards (north-south) and (east-west), where these areas with high density of linear have shown high permeability, which means that they have a greater likelihood of collecting groundwater, especially the sites of intersection of linear water.
