Doctoral thesis / College of Education for Human Sciences - University of Basra - in the Department of History (The position of the United States of America regarding hijacking of planes and hostage-taking in the light of the Arab-Israeli conflict 1968-1974) for the student (Nidal Khazal Ghadban) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. (Ebadi Ahmed Abadi).
The thesis dealt with the position of the United States of America regarding the hijacking of planes and hostage-taking as a new method adopted by the Palestinian resistance movements, most notably the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Black September Organization, knowing the reasons and motives that led to its adoption of this position and clarifying its foreign policy in limiting these operations and their results.
The thesis aims to clarify the position of the United States of America regarding the guerrilla operations of the Palestinian organizations in hijacking planes and taking hostages, and to explain the reasons that prompted the American administration to adopt this position and its impact on the Arab-Israeli conflict. In addition to clarifying the impact of these operations on American interests and how the American administration sought to protect them by urging the international community to conclude agreements that criminalize these operations and consider them “terrorist” operations and prevent the expansion of their activities against American and Israeli interests.
The thesis concluded that the dominant feature of the American position on these events is the clear bias towards Israel at the expense of the Palestinian people, which prompted the United States of America to call the international community against it and prevent any Arab country from supporting the Palestinian resistance, which reduced these operations until the study period.
