The two faculty members at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah Prof. Falah Hassan Shari and Associate Professor Dr. Ghassan Salah Ahmad, published a paper entitled (The Level of Nitric Oxide Synthase and Nitric Oxide in Hypertensive Women) in the Indian Journal ofPharmaceuticalNegativeResults with an impact factor of 0.13 and within Scopus containers.
The study investigated the effect of nitric oxide (NO), a reactive oxygen species (ROS), produced from L-arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS) on blood pressure.
The study aimed to investigate the association between NO and NOS with hypertension in women as there was a relationship between NO and NOS, as well as their usefulness as indicators of hypertension risk.
The results showed that hypertensive women had significantly (p < 0.05) lower levels of NO (15.07 ± 3.41 IU/mL) and NOS (9.79 ± 2.08 ng/mL) in their serum compared to normal healthy women as well as a strong relationship between nitric oxide Nitric oxide synthase/hypertension in women Where reduced NOS in serum of hypertensive women leads to decreased circulating levels of NO However, NOS reduction may not be the only reason for reduced NO, which could be due to elevated stress oxidative stress
Based on these findings, we suggest controlling NOS and NO in hypertensive subjects to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
