A scientific study prepared by Dr. Dunya Ali Hussein in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science and in partnership with Dr. Dina Ali Yaseen in the College of Engineering and a master's student, Beeen Hussein Zaboon, examined improving the efficiency of a wastewater reclamation by using artificial plastic biofilm-carriers.
The study was published in the journal

Classified within Scopus Q3 containers, the method of designing the system, evaluating plant adaptation and growth, comparing the performance of the wetland system in the presence of plants and the bearing elements of the biofilm and gravel, comparing the growth of the plant in the presence of the bearing elements of the biofilm, and comparing the performance of the system between the winter and summer seasons.
The results of the study concluded that the treatment system in this study was successful during winter conditions, and the treatment systems enhanced the properties of raw sewage water.
