The scientific team from the Educational Guidance and Psychological Care Center headed by Dr. Hana Sadiq Al-Badran and researchers Tahrir Zaki Hassan, Nawal Muhammad Al-Assaf, Ashwaq Jabbar Hammoud and Nour Kateh Abbas continued to provide its advisory and training services to the Social Research Unit of the Basra Court of Appeal.
Concerning the cooperation and services provided, the director of the center, Dr. Hana Al-Badran, said, “The nature of the services provided by this unit has been identified and the work has been coordinated with the unit’s official, Mrs. Adela Judeh Rashid, as our team is currently conducting on-site observation for one day a week and for the next three months. It includes interviewing spouses who are about to divorce in order to know the psychological reasons in order to limit this phenomenon, especially among newly married young people, as well as organizing on-site training courses for the cadres of that unit in order to achieve maximum benefit for government departments from the academic expertise owned by the center.
Al-Badran added - Our center's team met with many court visitors, and many of them were helped and persuaded to abandon the idea of divorce by treating its causes in a scientific and psychological way. These teams recorded some of the main reasons that push the new couples to end the marital relationship, including marriage at an early age or the so-called marriage of minors and the influential interventions of parents and relatives between the spouses, the husband’s attachment to the idea of immigration to European countries, as well as the husband’s abandonment of the wife for long periods and leaving her and their children without fixed expenses, or because of the husband’s drug abuse and wife’s abuse.
Some of the reasons may be purely psychological, such as the wife threatening the husband to commit suicide if he does not accept the divorce! With the presence of children, the situation is getting worse, which requires the team and the social research unit to make extra and exceptional efforts to resolve the situation in order to preserve the family's entity.
Al-Badran noted the need to provide more than one place designated for meeting each spouse separately, as well as relatives and parents, as they are the main element for resolving every dispute if they are not the main cause that pushes the spouses to divorce, as well as providing a designated place to watch and see children and nursery calls by spouses or parents in order not to deprive them of the reassurance of their relatives.
