A scientific study at the College of Science at the University of Basrah, prepared by Dr. Dunya Ali Hussein, in partnership with Dr. Dina Ali Yassin from the College of Engineering, and the researcher, Benin Hussein Zboun, examined the improvement of wastewater using biofilm-carrying elements.
The study, which was published in the "Journal of Ecological Engineering", classified within Scopus Q3 containers, showed the method of designing a wetland system for water purification, evaluating plant adaptation and growth, comparing the performance of the system in the presence of plants and biofilm-bearing elements and gravel, as well as comparing plant growth in the presence of biofilm-bearing elements and comparing the system's performance between winter and summer.
The results of the study concluded that the treatment system in this study was successful during winter conditions, and the treatment systems enhanced the properties of raw sewage water.
