As part of the university's projects for sustainability and to benefit from modern mechanization, a date press was opened for the manufacture and marketing of dates in the Nahar Khouz area in the Abu Al-Khasib district, after contracting with the Directorate of Agriculture.
The President of Basrah University, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, indicated that at the beginning, we inquired about the reasons for stopping the factory more than 16 years ago and sent specialized committees to visit it, and a way was found to operate it through a cooperation mechanism with the Directorate of Agriculture.
Shaheen added that the factory is managed by a specialized technical team from the university, and its production will be marketed to destinations that need those dates, including Basra education for nutrition, the internal departments of our university, the airport or prisons.
It is worth mentioning that the total area of the date factory is 1,070 square meters and its facilities include a production room, a cold room, an extension room, stores for dates and other joints of the factory, and that its most important products are dates pressed with pits and without pits, dates pulled from the vacuum, and dates stuffed with almonds, walnuts, and date honey, and from different types, including Al-Barhi, Al-Halawi, Al-Khadrawi, Al-Bream, Al-Sayer, Al-Zahdi, Al-Khastawi and other types of dates. As for the production capacity of the factory is 4 tons per day.
