
The team of the University of Basrah, consisting of the student Fawaz Al-Husseini, Mujtaba Al-Mashkoor, Fatima Muhammad and Abdullah Abbas, won the second place in the INTILAQ competition 2022 for creating a computer virtual training content that simulates the reality of surgeons when they perform non-recurring surgeries before performing them to reduce the error rate. After the Kirkuk University team ranked first, and the Muthanna University team ranked third.
The Director of the Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Center at the university, Dr. Zina Waheed Atwan, said, "The launch competition has sparked the ideas of students who have a passion for entrepreneurship, creative projects and scientific innovations for the development of the private sector and job creation. The University of Basrah participated in its project in the competition with (120) competing projects representing (37) participating Iraqi universities, most of which were excluded on the last day of the competition. The competition committee announced the acceptance of (19) projects to win the first three ranks, which were sponsored by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) with funding from the German Ministry of Development and Economic Cooperation and the European Union, in partnership with the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Atwan added - this year's ideas, innovations and projects varied to include various health, agricultural and industrial aspects, care for the elderly and people of determination (special needs) and the business sector. Its jury was moderated by a group of entrepreneurs, including the economic policy advisor to the German Agency for International Cooperation, Mr. Zaid Abu Tabikh and Dr. Lamia Salman from Al-Mustansiriya University, the director of marketing and delivery for Miswak, Mr. Ali Al-Hilli, the general manager of Kareem in Iraq, Mr. Hussein Al-Bayati, and Director of Corporate Communications Department for Zain Telecom, Iraq Branch, Mr. Haider Oqab.
