A scientific study, entitled (Depositional Properties of the Middle Miocene Fatha Formation, in K Oilfield, Southern Iraq), was prepared at the College of Science at the University of Basrah by Dr. Muhannad Hamid Al-Jabri and the two researchers Kawthar Iyad Hassan, and Liqaa Nima Salem from the Nahran Omar laboratories of the Basra Oil Company. The study was published in the Iraqi Geological Journal classified within Scopus containers Q3.
The study showed that the formation has a wide regional extension and is characterized by several recurring cycles of several igneous rocks, as it possesses a great diversity of lithic rocks, including igneous rocks, evaporites, as well as carbonite rocks.
The study included the examination and study of the types of sediments and the examination of evaporites, marl, limestone and clay rocks.
