The College of Dentistry University of Basrah discussed the scientific aspect in its annual calendar conference for the academic year 2021/2022, which was held on Tuesday, the 11th of October, and was attended by members of the University Council, members of the College Council, academic teaching personnel and college staff.
As the Dean's Assistant in Scientific Affairs, Lecturer.Dr. Sundus Abdul Wadood, presented during her discussion of the scientific aspect a brief overview of the establishment of the college In 2005 to meet the community’s need and fill in the shortage in the field of dentists in Basra Governorate, and that the number of graduate students is approximately 1035 since Its establishment until the year 2021/2022.
She went on to talk about the college's mission and goals, which are included within the college's accreditation of international academic programs, increasing the level of dental services provided to the community, and opening postgraduate studies in various specializations to prepare a much needed teaching staff.
She referred to the projects, initiatives and community service provided by teachers and students for a period of three years, including dental diagnosis, extraction, scaling and polishing and treatment of children's teeth in preservative and preventive approaches, dental prosthesis and other treatments.
On the other hand, Dr. Sundus discussed the unification of curriculums, scientific activities, signing letters of understanding, published research, seminars, workshops, local and international conferences, the ranks obtained by the college in the academic Iraqi classification, and the results of the assessment and ministerial examinations.
Dr. Sundus, through a dialogue that took place between her and officials from the presidency of the University of Basrah, called for an immediate cooperation is in order to eliminate the weaknesses identified by the conference, which included the small number of academic teachers, the small size of the building and Its failure to accommodate the increasing numbers of students, the narrow size of educational clinics and Its negative impact on reducing the number of practical training hours for the student and speeding up the process of establishing an integrated building worthy of the college due to the importance of the community services provided by these colleges, which are recognized by all of the Basrah community segments.
