On Sunday morning, 16/10/2022, in the Department of information and knowledge technologies at the College of Arts University of Basrah, a master thesis entitled(Towards the information specialist and his role in the Iraqi information institutions: a survey study) was discussed.
The thesis presented by the student Istiklal Nayef Nashmi included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the general framework for research ,the second chapter discussed the information institutions and services provided by the information major,the third chapter dealt with an overview of the central libraries, information centers and scientific departments in Iraqi universities. and the fourth chapter focused on the findings and recommendations.
The thesis aims to clarify the roles of the information specialist and the information skills that the information specialization enjoys in the informatics specialties in Iraq and the nature of the institutions in terms of their needs of changing the term librarians to information specialist according to specifications and standards and the conclusion of the thesis with the agreement of all specialists in libraries and information centers under the title of information specialist instead of librarian by 100%, and the teaching staff in the scientific departments agree to change the job title from librarian to information specialist by the changes of title (information and knowledge technology departments by 90%)
