Lecturer Dr. Amer Khazal Jaber Al-Hassan, delivered a research entitled (Studying camel red blood cells and elemental analysis using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) technology in southern Iraq) at the eighth international scientific conference of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah
Al-Hassan indicated that the research included a study to evaluate the shape of red blood cells and to know the elemental analysis of the blood of male and female camels in three governorates of southern Iraq (Basra, Dhi Qar and Muthanna), where scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed morphological changes that were not detected by light microscopy of red blood cells being surface Smooth with a circumferential indentation indicating an equatorial waist with a difference in the length and width of red blood cells between males and females, while an energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) study of the ratio of atomic concentration found different amounts of basic and heavy elements in the serum of camels of both sexes from Basra Governorate and different levels in the elements essential in the serum of both sexes in the provinces of Thi-Qar and Muthanna.
The aim of the research was to detect the structural and physiological changes adapted to the blood cells of camels with the desert environment and to calculate the amount of trace and heavy elements in the blood serum, which reflects the health status of camels and the biological signs of environmental
pollution.
