Dr. Sundus Abdul Wadood Aljazairy, an academic teacher at the College of Dentistry, University of Basrah, presented a scientific research on the causes of permanent tooth extraction for patients attending the educational clinics at the College of Dentistry for the period 2012-2014
The research discussed the main reasons leading to teeth extraction, such as experiencing pain, lack of health awareness, economical difficulties and the lack of even the primary health care.
The study showed that most of the patients were women because of the economic situation and some misconceptions that require women to stay at home and not allow them to visit dentists at a regular basis until the age reaches stages that cannot be cured, In addition to the family burdens placed on the shoulders of Iraqi women that push them to sacrifice their health status for the sake of their families.
