The Department of Geography at the College of Education for Women at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium on sustainable development and its geographical applications in Basra Governorate.
The symposium included twenty scientific papers that dealt with geographical aspects, environmental problems, and the possibilities of confronting them, in addition to studies related to urban and economic development in the governorate.
The symposium recommended a number of recommendations, the most prominent of which was finding job opportunities for the unemployed through the development of various economic sectors and finding solutions to environmental problems in the governorate, in addition to highlighting the role of the governorate in supporting the national economy and strengthening the role of the private sector and foreign investment in supporting the governorate’s economy, preserving natural resources and reducing pollution.
