The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized its eighth scientific conference under the slogan (With scientific research, we improve the health of humans and animals) in the presence of the deans of the colleges of veterinary medicine and researchers from America and Germany in addition to the host country.
The first day included an introductory lecture by Dr. Munther Al-Kazemi from the Royal University of London on hemorrhagic fever and its causes, and another lecture by Dr. Najm Abboud Al-Masoudi on the preparation of chemical compounds and their use as a treatment for breast and prostate cancer. After that, eight sessions were held, four in the morning and four in the evening.
The Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Rahman Kazim Mohsen, mentioned that this conference was distinguished from its predecessor by the increase in the number of participating researchers from Iraqi and international universities, as well as the diversity of research, which amounted to (52) research that dealt with important topics, including common diseases between humans and animals and animal poisoning with chemicals that affect the country’s economy.
The head of the Veterinary Medicine Deans Committee, Dr. Ahmed Hamid Azzam, indicated that his participation was the first in the conference, and he touched a high degree of scientific progress and research development. He confirmed the existence of joint cooperation between the University of Basrah and Iraqi universities at various levels.
The conference came out with several recommendations, including the involvement of the veterinarian in the scientific and logistical committees in order to reduce environmental pollution in cooperation with the relevant authorities and to support discreet scientific research related to veterinary medicine and environmental pollution through scientific conferences, seminars and international forums. In addition to that, Prof. Dr. Al-Kazemi recommended that there be moral and material support from the local and central government to conduct survey research on the number of infected animals in Basra Governorate, due to the lack of such research.
