The University of Basrah organized a symposium on the challenges facing the admission plan for the colleges of agriculture, veterinary medicine, marine sciences and some departments in other colleges, in the presence of a number of Iraqi parliament representatives and the concerned college councils.
The symposium aimed to identify the obstacles facing some colleges, such as low acceptance rates and students' reluctance to apply to them.
The head of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, Representative Thaer al-Jubouri, confirmed that agriculture is considered important for a safe environment and human health. We have seen some challenges, including that the agricultural departments cannot accommodate the number of graduates, especially for previous years, with the need to create an attractive environment for students, and we will not rest until we achieve what we aspire to in support of agriculturalists and graduates.
The President of the University of Basrah, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, indicated the importance of research finding its way to the labor market, which gives students hope for a brilliant future, as well as striving for there to be transformational industries and projects for our university, similar to other international universities.
Shaheen added that when the inputs are appropriate, the outputs will be better, especially when raising the acceptance rates for some colleges, as well as emphasizing the need to include approval of the Veterinary Medicine Graduation Law.
