The Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on the causes of sudden wilting of crops.
The seminar, moderated by Dr. Ramiz Mahdi Saleh, aimed to study the changes in the tissues of the roots of plants infected with the Fusarium virguliforme fungus which is the cause of sudden wilting disease of some crops, including date palms and soybeans, and finding appropriate solutions to avoid infection.
The seminar dealt with diagnosing sudden death disease as one of the most important diseases affecting plants around the world, which causes great losses in production, and identifying the fungus that causes Fusarium virguliforme, which is a dangerous soil fungus that attacks the roots, causing damage to the carrier vessels, and then complete wilting and death.
