A master's thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, investigated (evaluation of the potential protective effects of kidneys and anti-hyperlipidemia effects of citrus bergamot extract against amikacin toxicity in male white rats).
Researcher Fatima Farid Dhari Jawad's thesis dealt with the use of aminoglycosides, such as amikacin, which is considered an effective antibiotic. However, it has been linked to unwanted renal toxicity, which leads to negative changes in various biochemical indicators, and this was reinforced by the presence of significant morphological changes in the kidneys.
The study also included an evaluation of the protective benefits of citrus bergamot extract in male rats with acute kidney injury caused by amaxin, in addition to its anti-hyperlipidemia effect.
