The Department of Geology at the College of Science organized a panel discussion entitled (A comprehensive geological study of the formation of Dammam in terms of fossil, sedimentary, and stratigraphic sequence in selected wells and detectors from central and southern Iraq). For the Dammam Formation within the study area, as well as its comparison with studies inside and outside the country, in addition to a sedimentary study of the most important formation facies, determining the sedimentary cycles and their environment, and finally determining the stratigraphic sequence of the Dammam Formation to the fourth degree.
The study included a number of wells in central, southern and southwestern Iraq for the purpose of comparing these basins with each other and determining their sedimentation patterns.
The results reached the identification of three main life zones and a number of sedimentary facies deposited in confined environments, laconic, shallow or barrier environments, as well as extended to the open sea in the upper Eocene period.
