Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Jassim Abbas participated in the scientific symposium organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the Bologna Project.
The symposium included a lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdel-Hussein Attia, Advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to introduce the Bologna system, which is a new higher education system for Iraq. The Bologna project is an intergovernmental process aimed at improving higher education, and so far includes 49 European countries and a number of organizations. The European Bologna project also provides a platform for students to engage in the development of their studies. European countries also concluded agreements between their universities in the Italian city of Bologna to enhance education in their universities, attract international students and advance in scientific fields worldwide, so that students educate themselves according to the standards mentioned in the agreement.
One of these agreements is the Bologna Agreement, which was signed in 1999 for the first time between 29 European countries to improve the academic level of European universities.
After the conclusion of the Bologna Agreement between European countries, the universities of these countries were obliged to improve and raise the level of education in their universities in accordance with the standards of this agreement and to provide more educational facilities for their students.
There are strenuous efforts in Iraq to implement this system in technical education, especially the Middle Technical University, which sponsors this process, since the infrastructure in this university is suitable for hosting such a project.
