The Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled (Design, preparation and identification of some new thiazolidinene-4,2-dione derivatives as anti-diabetic agents) with the participation of researchers and specialists.
The panel discussion included a lecture delivered by Assistant Lecturer Rawnaq Thamer Kazem, in which she showed how to prepare derivatives of new 2,4-thiazolidine-diones that have blood-sugar-lowering properties, and in three stages. A), which was reacted with vanillin in an alkaline medium, and the result of the second stage in the reaction was to obtain compound (B), which, by its interaction with a group of different amines, seven new thiazolidine derivatives were obtained. The new compounds were identified using physical techniques and spectroscopic methods.
After that, the anti-diabetic activity of the newly manufactured derivatives of a sucrose-loaded model was evaluated on a group of healthy rats and on another group of rats with induced diabetes using streptozotocin, where the results of the tests showed that blood glucose levels decreased in a higher degree than the effectiveness of the standard drugs used in the study.
