The Department of Geology at the College of Science discussed a Ph.D. thesis entitled (The Impact of Drilling Treatments on the Problem of Mud Loss in Drilling for Oil and Gas Wells, Non-Productive Time Rumaila Field, Southern Iraq). The researcher's thesis, Maysa Nuri Shehab, aims to identify and define the danger zones to be avoided during future drilling.
The study included the use of drilling data and modern sensors and their interconnection with seismic data. Distinctive results were obtained by defining the risk areas for the problem of drilling mud leakage in stratified formations and defining risk areas to avoid them in future drilling. The researcher also reached certain values for drilling parameters that must be followed to avoid this problem.
The results concluded that there is no direct and strong relationship between the drilling parameters and the problem of drilling mud loss, with an excellent match between the amalgam lock facies and the drilling data.
