The thesis dealt with identifying the research problem, which was summarized by answering the following question: Is there a relationship between hope in life, cognitive flexibility, and emotional regulation? Addressing an important segment of society who are without parents.
The thesis aims to identify hope in life among students without parents, to identify cognitive flexibility among students without parents, to identify the emotional regulation of parents without parents, and to identify the correlation between the three research variables.
The research reached the following conclusions:
The research sample individuals (who have lost parents) have hope in life.
- There are no statistically significant differences in the hope in life for those who have lost parents according to the variable of gender and the type of loss, and that males and females have the same level of hope in life.
- The research sample individuals have cognitive flexibility.
- There are statistically significant differences according to the gender variable in favor of males, and there are no statistically significant differences according to the father-mother type of loss variable.
The research sample members have emotional regulation.
- There are no statistically significant differences according to the gender variable and the type of loss in emotional regulation.
The association of cognitive flexibility with emotional regulation at a higher level than the association of hope with emotional regulation.
Based on the conclusions, the researcher came out with a set of recommendations
Focusing on caring for the aspirations and desires of the lost parents by paying attention to scientific and counseling programs to develop and enhance hope in life for them.
Include active educational curricula and strategies that contribute to the development of cognitive flexibility among all students and those without parents in particular.
Building counseling programs for the development of emotional regulation among parents who have lost their parents.
Providing students without parents with positive experiences that enhance their hope and optimism.
