The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Basrah discussed a master's thesis in economics on the repercussions of the dual shocks on the Iraqi economy for the period (2014-2020).
The researcher (Zainab Hussein Sobeih)'s thesis aims to analyze the reality of oil shocks in the world and their negative effects on oil-producing countries, with a focus on the oil price shock in 2014, which led to a significant decline in oil revenues in Iraq.
The thesis concluded that the almost complete dependence of the Iraqi economy on the oil sector made it a fragile economy that is exposed to frequent external and internal shocks, as most of the shocks that the Iraqi economy was exposed to resulted from Iraq remaining dependent on oil revenues in the first place and neglecting other sectors.
