The Continuing Education Unit in the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Basra organized a workshop on (reluctance to self-reading among university youth)
The workshop aimed to identify the most important reasons behind the phenomenon of reluctance to self-reading among students, and to introduce the importance of self-reading in the development of mental abilities (synthetic analysis).
The workshop, which was lectured by Assistant Professor Hala Ghaleb Al-Nahi, a lecturer at the College of Arts, Department of Libraries and Information Technology, included several axes on the benefits of reading, reading tendencies, and the factors affecting the formation of reading tendencies. Encourage families to read for their teenage children, take them to the library, and go with them to buy books that suit their interests
Developing a distinguished cultural program within the colleges’ plan that includes holding competitions and hosting writers and thinkers to discuss their books
Allocating material and moral incentives to encourage students to participate in cultural events
Dedicating a university cultural day for reading every semester, under the supervision of the dean of the college and the president of the university, as a basis for holding an annual carnival for reading on campus.
