The College of Education for Human Sciences organizes a symposium on violence against women.
The Continuing Education Unit in the College of Education for Human Sciences - University of Basra, in cooperation with the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, organized a symposium entitled: (Violence against Women)
The symposium aimed to spread awareness among the young generation represented by university students; To reduce violence against women, to inform women of their human rights, and to reject their exposure to violence.
Present at the symposium were:
Mr. Dr. Batool Ghaleb Al-Nahi, and Prof. Dr. Zainab Faleh Al-Shawi, and M. M. Aya Abdel-Amir, and directed by Prof. Dr. Nidal Muhammad Qambar.
The symposium dealt with the concept of violence against women, which our true religion denies. The symposium dealt with the role of the family, the media, social networking sites, the school, and school curricula in combating violence against women. Another aspect of the symposium dealt with the role of Islamic law in reducing violence against women. At the conclusion of the symposium, the following recommendations were proposed:
Encouraging the building of a culture of non-violence and non-discrimination, as well as the advancement of our Iraqi society.
- strengthening the institutional capacity of community institutions; To protect women from gender-based violence.
- Promoting the rights of Arab women and protecting them from all forms of violence, and reducing the effects of violence against them.
Develop comprehensive national action plans and strategies in the field of violence against women.
- The need to refer cases of violence against women to the formal judicial system.
Focusing on public awareness through targeted media, reviewing and developing school curricula.
Emphasis on the duties of protecting women's human dignity in the family and society.
