A master's thesis in the College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed the biodiversity of fish communities in the Western Hammar Marsh.
The researcher (Hisham Abdel-Sattar Jigan Hassan)'s thesis showed the application of environmental evidence to assess the biodiversity of fish in the Marsh, the composition of the fish community, and the number of fish species in the Western Hammar Marsh.
The aim of the thesis was to identify the biodiversity of the fish assemblages in the Hammar Marsh and the impact of environmental factors on the fish communities in the marsh to give a clear picture of them and to prepare a list of fish species in the marsh according to the division of "Tyler 1971" and to apply evidence of similarity and difference between the study stations.
The thesis recommended the protection of fish wealth in the marshes by activating the laws and the need to work to increase water releases from the marshes to create an ecosystem with high productivity and extending the Iraqi marshes with fish fingerlings and working to spread environmental awareness among the population.
