A master's thesis in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education, Qurna, University of Basra, discussed a study (Divan of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nahwi Al-Hilli, a Linguistic Study) by researcher Ahmed Jassim Abd Muhammad Al-Musawi in the central hall of the College of Education, Qurna.
The study dealt with the nature of the subject, dividing the thesis into four chapters, preceded by an introduction, followed by a conclusion, and a list of research sources and references. As for the preamble, the discussion was about the name of the poet, his life, his upbringing, his teachers and students, the sayings of the scholars about him, and his works, of which the Diwan was one of the most prominent, as the researcher briefly referred to the Diwan and what it contained, and the most prominent poetic purposes organized by Sheikh Al-Nahawi.
The study included, after a brief definition of the poet and his poetry, the first chapter came under the title (the phonetic level), as it is considered the first level of language levels, in which the researcher studied repetition, onomatopoeia, humming, mitigation, and rhyme, in four topics, respectively. Rhythm internally in terms of repetition, and externally in terms of rhyme, as well as two phonetic phenomena, which are the imitation, the realization of the hamza, and its dilution, and for the rest of the other phonetic phenomena, the researcher has been exposed to some of its details in this chapter and others where the reference is required.
As for the second chapter, it was under the title (morphological level), and it came in four sections, the first of which was looking at the structures of verbs and their significance, the second was about the structures of sources and their significance, and the third was about the structures of derivatives, and the fourth was about the structures of plurals.
After researching the phonetic and morphological levels in the Sheikh's Grammatical Diwan, the third chapter came under the title (the grammatical level), and this chapter included two sections. From the syntax, with an indication of the semantics in the branches of both sections. As for the second topic, it was devoted to the study of grammatical styles, and it dealt with the most prominent of them in the Divan, namely: the interrogative style, the command style, the prohibition style, the appeal style, and the negation style.
The results of the study showed the excellence of the lexicon of the grammar sheikh in being full of many words that he derived from his linguistic, religious, historical and social culture, so he mixed between traditional words and modern words.
