A master's thesis at the University of Basra discussing (Abdul Rahman Al-Baydani and his political, economic and social role in Yemen 1962-2012)
I researched a master's thesis in the Department of History / College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basra - (Abdul Rahman Al-Baydani and his political, economic and social role in Yemen 1962-2012) - by the student (Athar Jabbar Obaid).
The thesis dealt with the study of one of the political figures who left their mark in the contemporary history of Yemen in all its political, economic and social fields. The researcher stated that the reasons that prompted me to write this topic are the conflicting opinions, the contradiction of information, and the different positions about the personality of Al-Baydhani, and thus the clarity of the image that was shrouded in some ambiguity, to investigate the information and reach the truth about this personality and reveal its secrets. This study tried to know the biography of Al-Baydani and his political activity since the years of government Imami in Yemen, and even his activities and roles that he practiced after he became out of power. Perhaps that includes focusing on his writings and his social, economic and religious positions towards the events in Yemen, and answering questions and ambiguities regarding his role in the Egyptian military intervention in Yemen through his relationship with Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat, and the impact of Egypt's role in the revolution of September 26, 1962 AD. And the transformation of governance from monarchy to republicanism, the positions he occupied and the positions he took.
The thesis included four chapters, an introduction, a conclusion, appendices and a list of sources. The first chapter dealt with Abd al-Rahman al-Baydani, his birth and early political interests 1926-1961. The second chapter dealt with his role in the political developments in the Arab Republic of Yemen (1962-1967), the third chapter focused on al-Baydani's position on the political events in North Yemen 1967-1990. The fourth and final chapter was devoted to shedding light on his activities in the cultural, economic, social and religious fields.
The letter concluded that Abd al-Rahman al-Baydani is one of the most prominent political and economic symbols and personalities. Despite what was said about him, he is considered a creative personality in his ideas, especially in the economic field, as he holds a PhD in economics. Despite his limited role in preparing and planning for the revolution through the articles he used to publish in the magazine (Rose Al-Youssef), introducing Yemeni society; But he gave himself priority at the expense of others and greatly exaggerated his role. Based on his role in persuading the Egyptian forces to support the Yemeni revolution, using his relationship with Anwar Sadat, who was in charge of the Yemeni file at that time. It is no secret that his hard-line policy against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has created difficulties for the revolution, but his diplomatic policy was one of the reasons for the recognition of the republican system by the United States of America, and a number of Arab and foreign countries.
