The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled (Focusing on Hodgkin disease Lymphoma) with the participation of researchers and specialists.
The panel discussion included a lecture delivered by Assistant Lecturer Faten Saddam, in which she explained that Lymphoma is a malignant disease that affects the immune system, and there are several types of it, including Hodgkin disease, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Lymphoma of the skin, and other types.
And that the type of Hodgkin disease that affects adults and children and usually affects the lymphatic system, especially immune cells type B cells. This type of disease usually appears in the upper part of the body in particular (in the neck, under the arm and chest) and appears in the form of lumps under the skin.
In late cases of this disease, it can spread to the diaphragm, spleen, and other parts of the body until it reaches the bloodstream.
The causes of this disease are not known, but the most important cause may be HIV. The most important symptoms of this disease is the appearance of lumps under the skin in the neck area, high body temperature, severe night sweats, weight loss and loss of appetite.
This disease is also treated in several ways, including Chemotherapy, Radiation therapy, Monoclonal antibodies, High dose Chemotherapy and stem cells transplant.
