The Department of Geology at the College of Science organized a panel discussion entitled (Evaluation of Pollution by Heavy Elements and Cyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Soils, Plants, and Groundwater in the City of Zubair, Southern Iraq). The seminar, in which the researcher Sajjad Wafaa Jaafar lectured, aims to assess the levels of pollution with heavy elements (toxic metals) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the soil, water and plants in the Zubair region, and to identify the sources of pollution in the Zubair region.
The results revealed that the heavy elements Pb, Ni, Zn, Cd and As contain a high concentration in the soil and C.lancifolius samples collected from different locations in the city of Zubair contain high levels of the elements Cr and Fe in all stations and the results of the study It showed a significant rise in the concentrations of total dissolved salts, due to the nature of the rock formations that store groundwater.
