
The Continuing Education and Development Center at the University of Basrah organized a lecture on obesity, its complications, and methods of conventional and surgical treatment.
The aim of the lecture is to introduce the dangers of obesity and its negative health complications, as well as the latest international and Arab statistics on obesity rates among different age groups in society, while addressing the available pharmacological and surgical treatments.
The workshop, which was presented by Dr. Ahmed Ziyara Khalaf and Dr. Muhammad Abdel-Reda, included the largest review of the definition of obesity and how it happen, with the definition of some societal lifestyles that exacerbated this common disease, such as eating fast food, not exercising, and using a car even to the nearest trips.
The symposium also dealt with some modern surgical methods to treat obesity, mentioning the benefits and harms resulting from these methods.
At the end, the recommendation was to improve the quality of life through the following steps: get rid of excess weight and encourage eating healthy meals and avoiding unhealthy foods and fast food.
