The Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled (The relationship of calcium and the health of the human body) with the participation of researchers and specialists.
The panel discussion included a lecture delivered by Dr. Haider Abdel-Karim Al-Wafi, where the lecturer explained that calcium is very important in improving the nervous and neuromuscular systems, in addition to many hormones that are disrupted in calcium deficiency. There is also a very important analysis that must accompany the analysis of both calcium and vitamin D in people who suffer from pain in the joints, bones and muscles at the same time, as most doctors only ask for an analysis of calcium and vitamin D, and this is not sufficient to accurately ascertain the cause, as it must be added In addition to these two examinations, a very important enzyme examination, which is the enzyme phosphatase, as this examination will oblige the laboratory to give very accurate results for the calcium and vitamin D examinations, because it is not scientifically permissible for the results of the examination to be contradictory between calcium and vitamin D, and this is what happens sometimes in private laboratories, and this third analysis will cut off Doubt with certainty and be far from the results of the discussion. The lecturer also emphasized the need for this examination to be available in all private and governmental laboratories to avoid an error in the examination and to preserve the patient’s health.
