A master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basrah discussed the isolation and evaluation of bacteria from hospital wastewater for the removal of pharmaceutical compounds by constructed wetlands.
The researcher's message, Nour Kazem Jabr, showed the detection of the highest concentrations of medicinal and personal care compounds in hospital wastewater and the Shatt Al-Arab River, and the isolation and identification of bacteria from wastewater.
The aim of the study was to investigate the ability of selected bacteria to degrade ibuprofen and to determine the performance of wetlands established on a laboratory scale in the phytoremediation of Ibuprofen.
The thesis recommended studying the local plants that can live in Iraq and examining the effectiveness of the different designs for the different constructed wetlands and the establishment of wetland systems in the hospital with ornamental plants because of their therapeutic effectiveness and aesthetic view.
