The College of Education for Human Sciences - University of Basra organized a symposium on (electronic extortion) in cooperation with the Basra Police Command, in which Lieutenant Colonel Fouad Al-Asadi, a specialist in drug and extortion issues, lectured.
The symposium aimed to shed light on an important topic that is considered one of the modern electronic crimes, and one of its contemporary problems, which is electronic extortion, and the need to direct students to the correct ways of life away from extortion and extortionists, and how to get rid of that in case they fall into it.
The symposium included several axes, the first axis dealt with the threat in the Qur’an and Sunnah, as there were many methods of the Holy Qur’an in addressing the human soul between encouragement, intimidation, warning, and preaching. As for the second axis, it was about electronic extortion, its causes, types and methods, and dealt with how this extortion occurs through the person who keeps electronic files for the victim, and among the reasons for electronic extortion is the lack of awareness of electronic security.
As for the third axis, it discussed the legal provisions for the crime of electronic extortion, for which a person is punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding seven years, according to Article (430) of the Iraqi Penal Code.
As for the last topic, the lecturer talks about prevention and remedies against electronic extortion, which is talking with the security authorities, communicating with them, and disclosing all information about the issue of extortion.
As for preventing this, it can be done with special procedures on how to deal with the requests of the blackmailer, and to maintain wisdom and calmness.
It is noteworthy that this symposium is part of a series of multiple seminars held by the college on extortion and drugs, some of which were held in person, and some were held electronically during this year.
