The College of Education for Human Sciences - University of Basra - Department of History organized its third integrated international scientific conference on (economic and urban projects in Basra throughout history),
A number of researchers from outside as well as inside Iraq participated in this conference, which created the atmosphere for the cross-fertilization of ideas and visions, and the mixing of cultures through fruitful participation and scientific interventions that took place between the researchers and the attending professors.
The international scientific conference aimed to promote societal culture in general, and the academic culture in particular of the cultural heritage in the field of urban projects, as well as guidance to benefit from previous experiences that dealt with the problems facing the advancement of the urban reality, as long as the problems are often repeated.
One of the important objectives is also to draw the attention of the competent authorities to the need to start finding strategic projects that advance the urban reality in Basra and to view them as a priority, and for the competent authorities to have prior plans and studies or the so-called five-year and ten-year plans for the future needs of urban projects, and to move within these plans.
The conference axes revolved around the civilized role of the city of Basra throughout the ages. The second axis included the pioneering role of the Basra community in peaceful coexistence. In the third axis, he stressed the economic importance of the city of Basra. As for the fourth and final axis, it was about the cultural, scientific and intellectual role of the men of Basra.
The conference came out with a number of recommendations, the most important of which were:
Employing past urban experiences in upgrading
With modern projects due to the city of Basra's cultural heritage and economic status throughout the historical eras, and
Deepening urban awareness in recent studies on the city of Basra, not only on political and military issues.
Coordinating with the central and local governments to rehabilitate tourist places in Basra and to emphasize its unique urban style.
Paying attention to supporting projects through which tourism can be activated in Basra and access to its archaeological features.
Developing economic concepts with a constructive philosophy and embodying them in projects on the ground.
5- Shedding light on the engineering studies that specialized in the urban aspect of the city of Basra in the modern era and trying to conduct historical engineering research approaches.
The necessity of preserving the general shape of the urban face of the city and trying to combine heritage and modernity in modern urban design
